Name: Oscar Ardila Luna
Institution / Position / Tasks: Public Art / Art Research
Country: Colombia
Fields of interest: Public Art / Collective Memory
Context or Motivation to participate:The role of a collective memory could be increased through public art, in order to confront censure and social conflicts. Censorship still is the sad reality in Colombia, where no discussion about recent history takes place, owing to an indeterminate fear, which dissolves any active public opinion. Public art can serve to ease that angst and allow for a different discussion about reality. Such was the case through certain art installations in Bogotá dealing with controversial historical events in specific public spaces. The interpretation of the work of art enabled a reading of the present.
