Name: Fiona Whelan
Institution / Position / Tasks: Artist with Rialto Youth Project, Dublin also coordinator of Graduate Diploma in Community/ Arts/ Education at NCAD Dublin
Country: Ireland
Fields of interest: issues of power; young people and policing; durational & cross sectoral responses to issues; art and social transformation.
Context or Motivation to participate:
For 8 years I have sustained a working relationship with a community youth project. The last 4 years, the work has been built on young people\'s experiences of power and policing, gathered anonymously. Over time, growing from a private/local context, this has manifested in public events, an exhibition/residency which brought together young people & police and received major national media coverage and the development of training for police. My art practice is multifaceted and durational and at the core of the work are issues of human rights and a cross sectoral approach to social transformation
